Chasing Enso #7 by Melissa Erlenbach is a vitreous enamel artwork. The 4" x 4" panel sits within an 8”x8” shadow float frame (overall size: 9 3/16" x 9 3/16"). Using layered enamel and a sgrafitto technique over black enamel, Erlenbach interprets the Zen enso—a circle symbolizing presence and imperfection. Here, the ENSO is rendered not as a perfect circle, but as an ellipse: a gesture toward imperfection, flux, and the reality that enlightenment is never fixed, but always evolving. Creating the “perfect” enso is a paradox: its beauty lies in the impossible balance of spontaneity and control, made even more challenging in permanent enamel. Edition #7 of 7 panels.

Steer clear of harsh chemicals—they can ruin some enamel finishes. If your piece needs cleaning, just wipe it gently with a soft, damp cloth. Skip anything abrasive.
